FDA Finally Admits Chicken Meat Contains Cancer-Causing Arsenic

According to the Associated Press, FDA finally admitted that chicken meat contains inorganic arsenic.

It has long been kept as a secret, but now the FDA finally admitted that chicken meat sold in the supermarkets is positive to arsenic. Arsenic is a toxic chemical which is known to have cancer-causing properties, and when taken in high doses it can be fatal.

The problem, in fact, is the origin of the arsenic which is added to the chicken meat we consume.

Arsenic is intentionally mixed with the chicken food. More than 70% chickens are fed in arsenic in order to stimulate faster growth on less food, and it also gives healthy color of chicken, turkey and hog meat, according to IATP`s report in 2006, called Playing Chicken.

According to FDA findings, half of the tested chickens had inorganic arsenic in their liver, and this it the most toxic form of this cancerous chemical.

Consequently, Pfizer was asked to stop the production of Roxarsone, a drug which contains toxic arsenic and which is added to chicken feed so that the meat looks fatter and has a nice pink color.

The Wall Street Journal reported:

“The agency said it recently conducted a study of 100 broiler chickens that detected inorganic arsenic at higher levels in the livers of chickens treated with 3-Nitro compared with untreated chickens … Pfizer said sale of 3-Nitro would be stopped by early July in order to allow animal producers to transition to other treatments.”

Despite the fact that this product is recalled from the stores throughout the US, the FDA still asserts that chicken meat contains safe amount of arsenic and that it is not dangerous.

Of course, the production industry does not want the world to know the truth about arsenic and its toxic effects on human health. Arsenic, together with mercury and lead, has extremely toxic effect on fetuses and children, according to to the University of South Carolina Department of Environmental Health Services.

Furthermore, experts claim that arsenic has 4 times more poisonous effects than mercury. For instance, Arsenic As+3 is 60 times as toxic as the pentavalent As +5.

According to a study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association, individuals who consume large amounts of rice which contains arsenic, experience change in the cells which leads to cancer development.

When ingested, arsenic causes Bowen disease (squamous cell carcinoma in situ); invasive squamous cell carcinoma; basal cell carcinoma on the skin; and sometimes even cancers of the internal organs, including lungs, kidneys, bladder, and liver, according to the most recent reports.

Unfortunately, FDA still claims that food which contains arsenic is safe to eat, but drinking elderberry juice is dangerous- ironic, isn`t it?
