This Is How Much You Should Weigh According To Your Age, Body Shape And Height

Since improper weight management can lead to various diseases, knowing your ideal body weight is the first important step towards good health. So what is the best way to determine a healthy weight? You can calculate your body mass index using BMI calculator, or you can look at your height and weight in the chart below.

Note: This ideal height/weight chart is only suitable for adult men and women. It isn’t suitable for children or young people under the age of 18.

What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?

Determining how much you should weigh is not as simple as looking at a height-weight chart, but it includes considering the amount of bone, muscle, and fat in your body’s composition.

The amount of fat in your body is the critical measurement. The body mass index is a very good indicator of how much fat you carry in the body. Although it is not a perfect measure, it provides a fairly accurate assessment of how much of your body is composed of fat. Having a BMI higher than 24.9 may mean that you are overweight.

If you were 6’3″ and 152 pounds I’d insist you see a doctor.

This chart don’t even have my height on it. Discrimination against short people. lol… How much is a 4′ 7/4’8″ adult female suppose to weigh?

  • KWT

I know someone who is 6’3″ and weighs 150 lbs.. in fact, all the guys in his family fall under the same specs… they are all healthy men, just have a super-charged metabolism.

This chart is obviously for white people. How you gonna tell a black man who’s 6’3″ tall, 250 pounds and chiseled af while playin’ in the NFL, that he’s obese?

A lot depends on your bone structure….whether you are petite or stocky built…etc.
A lot also depends upon your age.

This is a joke, I’m 5’9, my weight is about 180 pounds and I’m 50 years old looking like a 35 years old, never smoke, never did drugs, and never drink anything stronger than pepsi.

    Your a spinner.

I’m 5’9″, 180, 60 years old, I do a 90-minute pyramid on an elliptical every other day, and 2-hour weight workouts when I don’t do the elliptical. No alcohol and precious little meat. I feel pretty healthy. You know, the older Met Life actuarial charts were actually stricter, though the ranges were not so large, if I remember correctly. The way actuaries look at it, you are not a good insurance risk in a population if you go outside these limits. There are always exceptional individuals, but you have to have an advocate (usually a licensed insurance agent) to convince an insurer to give you a good rate if you fall outside these norms. I don’t know what research and protocol the NIH uses to prescribe weight limits. I’ll have to look into that.

I’m 6’3″ and weigh 180 pound. On a physical last year the company Physicians Asst. told me I was under weight. I told him he was mistaken, he said he was not. I let it drop but I did note that he was about 130 pounds over weight.

    Probably 20 pounds

honestly it’s not, it’s based on the very very flawed BMI chart, which doesn’t take into account the weight of bone, muscle, fluids or organs. According to that, most athletes who rely on muscle mass (or very fit folk) are obese.
Dwayne Johnson? 6′ 5″, Weight 260 lbs. Obese
Vin Deisel? Height 6′ 0″, Weight 225 lbs. Obese
Usain Bolt? Height 6′ 5″, Weight 207. Overweight
DeAndre Jordan? Height 6′ 11″, Weight 265 lbs. Overweight
Justin Houston? Height 6′ 3″, Weight 258 lbs. Obese

In the Army at 5’8 I weighed 185lbs at my lightest. I was banging out 100 push ups in two minutes, running sub 14 minute 2 miles, and could ruck 12 miles in 2hours 15. I was fit as hell but still “overweight” and needed to be taped. I’m just built heavy I guess.
