The Truth About Canned Soup: You’ve Been Poisoning Yourself for Years

Most people are not aware of the toxic, dangerous, and hormone disrupting ingredients found in canned soup. It is also abundant in additives, genetically engineered ingredients, MSG, and processed salt. On the top of that, many companies use cans with BPA, also known as bisphenol-A, in the lining.

According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, individuals who consumed canned soup on a daily basis for a week had BPA in their urine. On the contrary, the ones who consumed homemade soup didn’t have any BPA residue.

Reasons to Avoid Canned Soups

1. Aluminum

Even in small amounts, aluminum is still highly dangerous to the human body. Aluminum cans leach aluminum into the soup and the aluminum accumulation it the body can lead to autism, Parkinson`s disease, and dementia.  Once ingested, aluminum makes its way to various tissues in the body, such as lungs, liver, thyroid, brain, and kidneys.

Not only it damages the central nervous system, but latest studies show that there is a strong link between aluminum and breast cancer. According to a study published in the Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry in July 2013, breast cancer patients had higher levels of aluminum in their nipple aspirate fluids in comparison to a group of women without breast cancer.

2. BPA

Bisphenol-A, commonly referred to as BPA, is a chemical used to make certain plastics and resins since 1960s. This chemical mimics estrogen in the body and it binds to the same receptors as the natural female hormones. It is an endocrine disruptor, meaning that it mimics body`s hormones and interferes with the function of the endocrine system.

According to some animal studies, there is a link between BPA and infertility, cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Shockingly, traces of BPA have been found in 93 percent of urine samples that U.S Center for Disease Control took back in 2004. This means that all of us have potentially damaging chemical in our body.

3. MSG

This food additive is widely used as a flavor enhancer. It is known under several names, including Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Hydrolyzed Plant Protein, Vegetable Protein Extract, Yeast Extract, Glutamate, Glutamic Acid, Sodium Caseinate, Textured Protein, Soy Protein Isolates, Barley Malt, Calcium Caseinate and Malt Extract.

Animal studies have found MSG to be toxic to the brain and according to the researchers, it causes migraines in people as it impacts nerve cells in the brain and dilates blood vessels.

According to Reuters,

“In the latest research … [scientists] followed more than 10,000 adults in China for about 5.5 years on average. The researchers measured MSG intake directly by before-and-after weighing of products, such as bottles of soy sauce, to see how much people ate … Men and women who ate the most MSG (a median of 5 grams a day) were about 30 percent more likely to become overweight by the end of the study”.

It has been also found that MSG is a contributing factor to developing brain infections, Parkinson`s disease, Alzheimer`s disease, stroke, encephalitis, and Lou Gehrig`s disease.

4.      Vegetable Oils ( soybean/canola )

These oils contain high levels of polyunsaturated fats, known as PUFA. Our bodies are made of 97 percent saturated and monounsaturated fats. They require fat in order to rebuild the cells. Therefore, if we tend to give them unhealthy fats, they will get oxidized when subjected to heat.

This is associated with creating of free radicals, compound which lead to premature aging and development of many diseases.
